I've always been into "different", unique and kind of weird movies. The romantic comedies you watch when going to the movies tend to piss me off because they are so predictable and superficial. Here are some recommendations for cute, quirky independent movies :)
(500) Days of Summer
An
extremely cute love story that is (contrary to most other romantic movies) not
predictable and, if you ask me, more realistic as well. One could of course
argue about it not actually being a love story but I don’t want to spoiler you.
If you haven’t seen it yet, do so it’s definitely a must-watch!

Away We Go
This movie is so adorable. It's about the young couple you can see in the picture. They're awaiting their first baby. The movie depicts subjects like love, family, parenting, ... It's funny and cute and definitely one of my favorite movies. What I love is that it doesn't have this cliché structure, "1. everything's good, 2. everything sucks + drama drama drama 3. reconciliation and everything's good again". Basically, this is a movie that'll make you happy.
Elizabethtown
Okay, yes, this isn't an Indie movie, but anyway: It is starring Orlando Bloom and
Kirsten Dunst. Let me just say, this is one of the cutest movies
ever. The story is so unique and I love the way the main characters’
relationship develops throughout the movie (wow I feel like writing an essay
OTL). Anyway, go watch it if you’re into cute, quirky romantic movies!
Once
Cute
independent movie that’s (pretty much) all about the music. And let me tell
you, the music is GREAT! And I mean leaves-you-with-goosebumps-and-teary-eyes-great.
If you haven’t watched it yet, please do so :)
Little Miss Sunshine
This movie is about a family and, let's say, family issues. It's really funny and quirky, almost a little weird, and the characters are highly interesting :D It's also starring Steve Carell, who you might know of The Office.
Ghost World
This movie is about two teenage outsiders; it's funny and touching as well. A quote: "Sometimes I think I might be going crazy from sexual frustration."
Les Intouchables
French movie – it's really touching.
The love story is only a side story here. The movie is about a young French
man, Driss, who is struggling with life (as in getting a job and so on) and a
physically handicapped rich man. And, as chance would have it, the two meet and
somehow Driss slides into working for the handicapped man. I can't even summarize the movie but friendship plays an important role. It’s extremely funny and
definitely leaves you crying (happy AND sad tears lol). This is my absolute favorite movie atm!
Whip It
Whip It, starring Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore, is about the life of a teenage girl – her mom makes her go to beauty pageants and such. At first I thought this movie was rather predictable and cliché but turns out it's not! You'll have fun watching this ;)
Almost Famous
Are you into a certain band? Would you consider yourself as part of a fandom? Then just watch this movie. It is so cute, the music is great and, well, who wouldn't want to know what life as a real groupie is like?
I hope you don't already know all of these movies, and that some of my recommendations triggered your interest. If you know of any other cute Indie movies you like, please let me know in the comments ♥

ReplyDeleteGuten tag! Thanks for dropping by my blog a while back. Yes You are also a turtle hahaha... but I have to guess my way through yours because all the buttons are in german! I didn't even know how to follow you at first.
Do you live in Germany as of now? You said you went to China, how was that? Was it a school trip or something. I think... Germany is one of my most favourite countries in the world. What state in Germany do you live in?
Thanks for your comment! :)
DeleteYeea, sorry about that D: I'm actually using Blogger in English but the buttons are still in German ôo I have no idea how to change that.
Yup, I live in Germany. I've been to China twice, once it was a school trip and the other was like a language study travel. It was soo awesome, I miss Chinese people! I'm actually gonna go there again in March '13. I can't wait :D
And thanks! I live in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Where the rich and "green" people are lol
I loved 500 days:)
